Victory At S’Court, Triumph Over Falsehood, Evil – Diri
The Supreme Court has finally affirmed the victory of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, over the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11, 2023 governorship election and former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva.
Governor Diri described the apex court’s verdict affirming his victory in the November 11, 2023 governorship election, as the triumph of truth over falsehood and evil.
The Bayelsa State Chief Executive, who spoke in Abuja shortly after the apex court gave its verdict, said the victory was not for him or his deputy alone, but also for people of the State whose choice was validated by the courts.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri was quoted as saying that his victories at the courts have renewed his hope in the judiciary and in democracy.
The statement also quoted the governor as saying: “no matter the level of hardship in the country, the forthrightness of the judiciary has given the assurance that there is light at the end of the tunnel”.
Governor Diri called on Nigerians to be hopeful for a better country.
Speaking on the expectations of the people of the State in his second term, Governor Diri said his administration had started well and that it will consolidate on the gains so far made and even introduce new programmes and policies that will benefit the people.
“This victory is not for me. It is not for the deputy governor. It is for the people of the state. We’ve started on a good ground and we will not disappoint our people.
“We’ll even introduce new programmes that will benefit our people.
“From the election and the tribunal to the Supreme Court, we won four-zero. This is the triumph of truth over falsehood and evil. There is hope for democracy in Nigeria”, the victorious governor said.

APC Unveils New NWC At National Convention
Delegates at the convention, held at the Eagle Square, also produced a new national working committee (NWC) through a consensus arrangement endorsed by stakeholders.
Dr Ben Nwoye was named deputy national chairman (south), replacing Mr Emma Eneukwu, following consultations within the party.
Sources within the party said the decision was influenced by zoning considerations and consultations among party leaders, with Mr Peter Mbah, Enugu State governor, playing a significant role in ensuring Dr Nwoye’s inclusion.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Yilwatda said his re-election was a call to greater service and pledged commitment to unity within the ruling party.
“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and we are ready to build the party, together with the nation,” he said.
He added that the new leadership would not “fail or falter” in carrying out its responsibilities.
President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, governors, members of the national assembly, and other party leaders graced the convention.
