Omoku NSE Honours Okoroma, Harps On AI
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Omoku Branch, has instituted an annual distinguished lecture in honour of its pioneer Chairman, Engr George Chukwulewa Okoroma in Port Harcourt.
Engr. Sunny Orike said the branch decided to institute the annual lecture series in honour of Okoroma in appreciation of his numerous contributions to the branch from its foundation and how he encouraged upcoming young engineers in the locality to grow in the professional body.
He noted that Engr. Okoroma was as a mentor to several young and practicing engineers in the area.
According to him, this years edition of the annual lecture the second in the series ,”The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Construction Management and the Future of Engineering in Nigeria” is aimed at schooling members on the new technology and is very apt with current realities in the industry.
“ Honestly, this is a burning issue”, Orike said,” the whole world is talking about Artificial intelligence. It is a dependable tool in all aspects of human activities and existence.”
In his lead lecture, Engr. Beniah Elemchukwu Ojum, noted that as engineers and scientists they have the remarkable opportunity to not only identify the pressing issues that confront the globe, but also to develop practical solutions that would shape the landscape of our nation.
According to him, sustainability must be at the forefront of the efforts and through the lens of engineering, since engineering have capability and capacity to establish system, technologies and infrastructures that minimizes environmental impact, optimize resources utilization and enhance the wellbeing of our communities.
Ojum, said Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been progressively making its
mark across various industries, revolutionizing traditional practices as well as introducing innovative solutions.
His words, “ In the realm of construction management, A.I is proving to be a game-changer, offering a wide array of benefits that enhance project efficiency, productivity and overall success in engineering field. “
Other areas where A.I is transforming construction management according to him include project planning and scheduling stressing that by leveraging A.I algorithms, constructions managers can analyze vast amounts of data to optimize projects schedules, identify potential risks and allocate resources more effectively.
He reiterated that A.I systems can predict delays, mitigate challenges and ultimately stream-line the construction process from the start to finish.
Continuing, Ojumsaid, “A.I in Nigeria has the potential to break new frontiers for economic opportunities as well as social development and inclusive and sustainable growth.
However, he reasoned that AI in Nigeria is still in its infancy stage, despite the growing number of start-ups and established business, using A.I solutions to deliver customer-services to their clients.
