RSG Unseals Hospital In Bonny, Warns Against Medical Negligence
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the Commissioner for Health to unseal the St. Charles Surgery Hospital in Bonny Local Government Area of the State.
The hospital was sealed in April this year following a report of negligence to duty by the medical officer on duty which led to the death of a patient receiving treatment in the hospital.
According to the press statement issued by the Health Commissioner, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, and signed by the Information Officer to the ministry, Ms Edina Alete, the hospital management has relieved the medical officer responsible for the death of the patient of his duty following his negligence to adhere to the hospital policy and ethics of medical practice.
The Commissioner said that appropriate disciplinary measures had been taken against the doctor by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State Branch, after a thorough investigation was carried out on what transpired on the day of the death of the patient at the hospital.
Dr. Adaeze noted that the State Government has also issued a stern warning to all medical officers overseeing both government and private health facilities to take their job seriously and ensure that incident of such nature does not occur in any of the health facilities in the state again.
She further urged members of the anti-quackery committee which was newly inaugurated in the State to double their efforts and ensure that any erring facility or medical officer is sanctioned in accordance with state laws.
Dr. Adaeze, however, disclosed that the office of the Director, Medical Services at the ministry who also double as the chairman of anti-quackery committee is opened for 24 hours daily to receive complains from the general public arising from any malpractices from any health worker or health facility across the State.
