Poly Govering Council Holds Inaugural Meeting
The 3rd Governing Council of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has held its first inaugural sitting with a charge on the management of the institution to be prudent and disciplined in the financial management of the school.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Namani Robinson Ewor, gave the charge while addressing journalists after the inaugural sitting of the council held at the school premesis in Port Harcourt , last Friday .
Ewor, who was a former member of the state House of the Assembly and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed distisfaction over the dilapidated state of facilities in the polytechnic which he said was not befitting of a polytechnic status and assured that the present council would present its observations to the state government for prompt actions.
He averred that the institution was still parading facilities of the old School of Basic Studies established in 1977 (SBS), adding that the state government must invest heavily on the provision of facilities if the institution is expected to produce middle cadre technical manpower that would be needed in the State.
According to him, the essence of a governing council in every higher institution is for the provision of welfare and to oversee the overall supervision of the programmes and activities in the institution.
“We have held our inaugural meeting today and we have gone round the entire school to see things for our- selves and we have concluded that the facilities here are not up to the standard of a polytechnic.Facilities here are still the ones when the school was established in 1977 as School of Basic Studies which was later upgraded to a college in 1991 and later converted to a polytechnic in 2016 and if the institution is to produce the middle management cadre and technical manpower needed in the State, there must be urgent amd huge investments on facilities by the state government”, he said.
