Edo Meter Testing Station 95% Completed -NEMSA
The Management of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) yesterday disclosed that the Meter Testing Station currently under construction in Benin, the Edo State capital, was 95 per cent completed.
The Chief Executive Officer, NEMSA, Mr Aliyu Tahir, made this known during a visit to the station.
Tahir stated that the station, currently being built across the country, would help bridge the metering gaps.
According to him, the facility would be commissioned by the end of second quarter.
“The Federal Government is very committed to tackling the issues arising from metering in the country.
“We are all consumers of electricity and there is existing metering gap in the country and the gap is wide, closing the gaps requires the installation of millions of meters”, he said.
Tahir explained that meters by law, were not going to be installed and put into use without testing and certification by NEMSA.
“So, we are already preparing towards the closure of this gap and government is working hard to ensure that this gap is closed within a short period because there are a lot of programmes that are going on.
“The Meter Access Providers Programme is already on, the National Mass Metering Programme is also on.
“Edo testing station would have Meter Generation Museum which would help show how electricity meters evolve within the country.
“We already have one in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kaduna and we have already awarded that of Enugu”, he added.
He, however, noted that the agency had the mandate to enforce technical regulation, test and certify all categories of meter installations across the entire power value chain.
