UNICAL Promotes 15 Academics To Professorial Cadre
Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, in a press statements on Monday, announced the promotion of 15 academic staff of the institution to the professorial cadre.
Obi, who made the announcement following the 237th meeting of the Senate of the university, said 11 were promoted to Professors while four were made Associate Professors.
Some of those elevated to the rank of Professors include Grace Essiet, Pharmacology; Sidney Oparah, Internal Medicine; Christopher Adamu, Geology; Anthony Ugbaja, Geology; Rita Ndifon, Curriculum and Teaching, among others.
The new Associate Professors are Alfred Edema, Business Management; Maurice Mbah, Medical Parasitology and Entomology; Ifeyinwa Okafor, Haematology and Blood Transfusion Science; and Benedict Odigbo, Marketing.
Similarly, the Vice Chancellor formally notified the academics of the commencement of the Online Distance Learning Programme (ODL) of the institution.
According to her, “while the formal approval has been given and advertisement is ongoing, the institution will commence with only one programme. Other programmes will be added in successive years”.
She also announced the demise of Prof. Thomas Agan, former Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) and Prof. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
