Delta Trains Workers On GDP Compilation, Computation
Delta State Government has commenced training of its workers ahead of the compilation and computation of the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sunny Ekedayen, while declaring open the two-day training, Monday, in Asaba, said the computation of the GDP would allow government to know the health of the state’s economy.
Ekedayen, re-presented by the Director of Administration in the ministry, Mr Sunday Emamofo, also said the exercise would help in improving the overall wellbeing of the people of the state.
While recalling that the GDP exercise was last conducted in the state in 2020, he said that the update had become necessary because of its great importance.
“The last GDP exercise was conducted in December 2020; hence this update is necessary and of great importance.
“Data is essential for planning and as professionals in the field of data generation, the importance of GDP cannot be over-emphasised, as compilation and computation of the state’s GDP will help in knowing the health of our economy”, he said.
The commissioner urged the participants to seize the opportunity to learn and make the impacts that would guide them during the field work.
Ekedayen also said the survey would be used by the Gov. Sheriff Oborevwo-led administration to implement it’s “MORE” agenda for the people of the state.
In her remarks, the Director of Statistics, Ms Nkechi Maduemeze, noted that official statistics were indispensable for effective governance, especially in achieving the agenda of the present administration.
“This workshop is of utmost importance because GDP tells us about the health of the economy of a state, the nation and the community.
“A healthy economy helps government to make policies that will give rise to employment, increase in salary and infrastructure”, he said.
The Tide’s source reports that the survey, scheduled to last for 15 days, would cover data of children, adults, male and female, the working class, the unemployed, the self-employed and the educated, among others.
