Briggs Made Monumental Impact On Society -Wike

Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has described the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt and former Chairman of the Rivers State Electoral Commission, late Prof-Emeritus Nimi Briggs, as a man who had made monumental impact on the society.
The governor stated this in his remarks during an evening of celebration and tributes in Port Harcourt for the former Chairman of Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian Federal Universities, late Prof-Emeritus Nimi Briggs, who died on April 10, 2023.
Wike, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, noted that the late Prof. Briggs was an epitome of integrity whose exemplary character and leadership made him a most remarkable person.
Eulogising the late don, the governor said, “the sudden death of Prof. Briggs reminds me of what Shakespeare said, life is but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. I believe that Prof. Briggs impact in academics, medicine, leadership and exemplary character will continue to speak for him.”
The governor observed that the late Professor-Emeritus possessed profound humility as he never hesitated to assist commissioners who struggled during his days as Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council.
He added that until date, years after the compilation of the book he published as Chairman of the Advisory Committee, it was still a reference material in the state.
“I am surprised that we are here today because he was very energetic and strong. May his soul find rest in the bosom of the Lord”, he prayed.
The son of the late Professor., Arc. Ninah Briggs, thanked the governor for organising the Night of Tributes and appreciated all who came to honour their father.
Tributes poured in from different statesmen, including the Chairman of RISEC, Hon. Justice Adulphos Enebeli (rtd), representative of the Bayelsa State Government, Ambassador Igali, O. C. J. Okocha (SAN), and the University of Port Harcourt.
The Deputy Governor-Elect, Prof. Ngozi Ordu and the Chief of Staff, Engr. Emeka Woke, were also at the night of tribute.
