OYRTMA Begins Enforcement Against Indiscriminate Display Of Wares
The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) says it will begin enforcement operations in all local government areas of the state against indiscriminate display of wares on road corridors.
The Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Dr Akin Fagbemi, said that the action would be taken against traders that were always adamant on road encroachment to display their wares and goods.
Fagbemi spoke while playing host to Mr Olaide Popoola, the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government area in Ibadan.
He said that the traders were fond of encroaching on the roads along Soka Junction, Eleyele-Ologuneru Road, Mokola Roundabout, Challenge, Iwo-Road and other identified spots.
According to him, like we have been doing, we shall intensify advocacy/awareness campaigns to motorists and all road users in the state to ensure total compliance.
He said that the agency has moved to further integrate relationship with Local Government Authorities across the state in a bid to consolidate on its existing Community Traffic Management System.
Fagbemi said that this was in-line with the sustainable development agenda of the state government under Gov.
Seyi Makinde.
He said, “the new step is a crucial subset of the broader Sustainable Traffic Management Initiative to ease traffic flow, reduce road crashes and enthrone sanity on all roads within the State.”
Fagbemi assured the council chairman of OYRTMA’s commitment to further expand the existing relationship with the government, particularly as it remains the centre of several commercial and industrial hubs of the state.
“As a government agency, we are ready to expand and build on our existing relationship with all local governments across the state, particularly Oluyole because of its strategic position to economic growth.
“If you would recall, we earlier moved our Operational Headquarters to Sanyo, Oluyole Local Government area in a bid to entrenching our Community Traffic Management System.
“This is central to our drive to keying in to the sustainable development agenda of the state government under Omituntun 2.0 led by our amiable Governor, Seyi Makinde,” he said.
Commenting, Popoola said, “the continuous difficulty being experienced on roads by residents in different parts of the state is majorly man-made.
forcement operations along the axis is key and we are confident OYRTMA would double efforts in this regards,” Popoola said.
