Monarch Lists Path To Productive Economy …… Appeals For Traditional Stool Upgrade
A respected Traditional Ruler in Babbe Kingdom, Khana Local Government Area, HRH King Taalor Nwidae Tornwe IV, Mene Bua Boue, has stated that the most potent means of promoting integrated development at the grassroots is to stimulate a thriving and productive rural economy.
King Tornwe, an entrepreneur and retired university administrator, who spoke with The Tide in an exclusive interview at his palace recently, hinted that over 80% of the populace were domiciled at the grassroots.
He noted that activation of the rural areas into productive activities would stimulate economic growth and address issues of joblessness as well insecurity in communities and stem rural urban migration.
To achieve sustainable economic development in communities, he said, the people must be “receptive to progressive initiatives, embrace development opportunities, and play complementary roles in delivery of community projects”.
He explained that various communities in the state were endowed with enormous development potentials, especially in agriculture, that were yet to be fully explored as regards what he called “comparative economic advantages”.
The monarch, who is reputed for his patriotic gesture and pivotal role in attracting electrification project to the entire Bua Boue communities, called on community-based organisations to be proactive in their roles change agents by sensitising the people, particularly the youth, to embrace peace and acquire basic skills to become more useful to themselves and the society at large.
The Royal Father appealed to the contractors of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) handling the Kono, Kereke, Nor Kwiri, Gbam Boue roads to return to site and complete the second phase of the project to alleviate the plight of the people.
The Traditional Ruler who commended the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for his concern towards the reclassification of existing stools in the state for maximal traditional administrative impact, appealed to the Governor to extend same to the Bua Boue stool in Babbe, which, he said, is one of the oldest in the state.
He said, the stool, currently a Third Class stool, should be elevated it to a First Class status to meet the expansive scope of traditional coverage.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
