IWD: Banigo Felicitates With Rivers Women
Rivers State Deputy Governor and Senator-Elect, Rivers West Senatorial District, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has applauded the contribution of women and girls towards the advancement of technology and online education.
Dr. Banigo gave the commendation in her goodwill message last Wednesday in Port Harcourt to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day.
The deputy governor said, in consonance with the theme of the 2023 International Women’s Day celebration which is ‘DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’, she would continue to mentor young girls into ICT to enable them carve a niche for themselves in the digital economy.
The senator-elect urged women to ensure that they work hard and strive for excellence in their spheres of influence which according to her, would promote gender equality and empowerment of women and girls.
She said Governor Nyesom Wike has graciously supported women in the State to fulfil their God given destinies by giving them a sense of belonging without prejudice.
“The Rivers Women are eternally grateful to Governor Wike for not only opening up the political space for more women to be elected into political offices but for also appointing more women into exalted positions of trust and creating the enabling environment for women to actualize their full potentials”, she said.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
