Cult Clash Claims Five In Ahoada, Rivers Police Confirm
The Rivers State Police Command, Port Harcourt, has confirmed the killing of five persons in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state over the weekend.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said the killing was as a result of clashes between members of rival cult groups -Icelanders and Greenlanders at Ahoada, adding that the incident happened at Abuja Housing Estate near Immigration Training School in the area.
The statement said during the supremacy battle, five persons were killed, adding that before police could arrive the scene of the incident, relatives had allegedly removed bodies of three suspected cultists for burial.
The statement said only the body of one Chibuike ThankGod, with one unidentified body, was later deposited at Okpeden mortuary in Ula Ehuda community.
It further disclosed that the state commissioner of police had ordered the deployment of tactical police team in the affected area while investigation was on to unravel the cause of the cult fracas.
Investigation shows that a shoot-out had ensued between members of Greenlanders and the Icelanders cult groups, which resulted to the death of about eight persons while a woman allegedly sustained gunshot injuries with corpses of the deceased littering around the estate as at Sunday morning.
A resident, who spoke of the community who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that residents scampered for safety, and many others remained in-doors for fear of being caught by stray bullet.
It was learnt that there was no security presence for over two hours during the shoot-out, while some residents around the area deserted the community for their safety.
It was further gathered that the Icelanders and Greenlanders have been involved in supremacy battle for territorial control in the past months with over 12 persons reportedly killed.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
