Equity Group Takes Free Medicals To Rural Communities
Inline with its Philosophy of reaching the unreached, a socio-political group, “The Rivers Equity Group”, has embarked on a medical outreach to rural communities in the State.
National Leader of the group, Elder Clapton Ogolo, told newsmen during the programm at the Ogale Civic Centre, Eleme, that the outreach was based on a need assessment conducted by the group.
“We are here to continue with what we feel should be done in the rural areas and Local Government Areas (LGAs).
“We had a need assessment and we realized that most of the people in the rural areas have need for medical attention, particularly their sight. So, we decided to simplify their health status by coming here”, he explained.
Ogolo said the group has already visited four LGAs, stressing that they will visit the remaining 19.
According to him, the programm will help those who cannot read to read, and also know how to vote during the elections.
Ogolo used the opportunity to commend the Gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic party (PDP), Amaopu Senibo Siminilaye Fubara, for his support towards the success of the programme, noting that it shows his concern for the health of Rivers people.
Also speaking, Sir Emeka Ichoku, who noted that the programme was to improve the health conditions of the people, said the outreach will also be used to sensitise the people on the importance of collection of their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC).
On his part, a former Permanent Secretary in the State, Sir John P. Nalley, commended Senibo Fubara for his support to the group to undertake the medical outreach.
Also, Managing Director of Lin Solar Eye Clinic, Dr.Adeline Aluge, said over 700 persons have have been tested and provided with glasses.
She said those with serious cases are referred to both secondary and Tertiary medical institutions for treatment.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Eleme LGA, Chief Obarillormate Ollor, has described the programme as a sign of great things to come.
Chief Ollor, who said this during a courtesy call by the group in his office, also pledged his council’s preparedness to collaborate with the group to reach all parts of the Council.
He also commended the people for their massive turn out for the programme, assuring that the council will undertake the treatment of those with serious cases.
Also speaking, the PDP Chairman in Eleme, Hon. Fyne Olungwe, described the programme as the beginning of a new era in Rivers State.
Olungwe said the programme has shown that the next PDP administration in the State will bring health care to the door steps of every Rivers man and woman.
Meanwhile, some beneficiaries of the programme, including Pastor Joshua O Joshua, Mrs Mercy Chiteh, and others thanked the group for the gesture and urged for the programme to be sustained.
