RSU Takes Over Kira Campus From Kenpoly
The Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, has officially taken over the Kira Campus from the Beeson Kenule Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori.
Speaking at the handover ceremony held, recently, at the Kira Campus in Tai Local Government Area, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, said that the ceremony was in compliance with the pronouncement of Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, in 2021.
The vice chancellor expressed gratitude to Wike for finding the institution worthy to take over the Kira Campus for academic activities as one of its satellite campuses.
Okogbule stated that the novel Faculty of Entrepreneurial Studies has been approved by the Senate of the university for the Kira Campus, adding that after commencement, other Remedial Studies programmes would be introduced to maximize the facilities in the campus.
He noted that a university was a centre of development, stressing that the presence of the Rivers State University in Kira would contribute to the transformation of Kira and other neighbouring communities.
Earlier in his handover speech, the Rector of Beeson Kenule Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Engr. Ledum Gwara, who was represented at the occasion by the Registrar, Dr. Emmanuel Onwukwa, commended the Rivers State University as the new occupant of the campus.
In his remarks, the Community Liaison Officer of Kira, Dr. Ebenezer Odike, thanked the Rivers State Government for transferring the campus from Beeson Kenule Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic to the Rivers State University, stating that the initiative has made Kira to become the first community in Ogoniland to host a university.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the signing of the handover document by the heads of the two institutions as well as the Kira Council of Chiefs Chairman, Chief Martin Saalo.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.

highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
