2023: NYCN Launches Walk For Sim Fubara
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has begun mobilisation of Rivers youths for the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Siminialayi Fubara, ahead of the 2023 elections.
As part of the mobilisation effort was the commencement of the one million youth match for Fubara organised by the umbrella youth group in the country in Port Harcourt, last Monday.
A statement signed by the Publicity Secretary,National Youth Council of Nigeria,Opobo/Nkoro chapter, Meshach Alaputa Jaja, and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt, said, the effort was designed to mobilise, unite and coordinate youths across the 23 local government areas of the state to vote for Fubara, and all other PDP candidates for the various elective positions across the state and national levels at the polls.
The statement read, “National Youth Council of Nigeria is the apex youth body of Nigerian youth, here in Rivers State, the apex youth body is headed by Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo, who is a capacity youth mobiliser that has done so much in uniting and coordinating youths across the 23 LGAs of the state.
“Earlier today, the Rivers State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in conjunction with the Collective Idea for Political Advancement (CIPA) organised a peaceful one million youth march in the state capital, Port Harcourt, in support of the candidature of the Peoples Democratic Party Gubernatorial Candidate, Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara for the 2023 general election.
“The Coordinator of the NYCN, Opobo/Nkoro LGA, Comrade Siminialayi Godswill Uranta, led hundreds of Opobo/Nkoro youths from the 11 Wards of the LGA to Port Harcourt in support of the one million youth march for Sim Fubara.
“The march, which took off from the state secretariat of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, passed through major streets of Port Harcourt drumming the support of the youths to Sim Fubara, Peoples Democratic Party Gubernatorial Candidate for the 2023 general election.
“Siminialayi Uranta while speaking with the press, commended CIPA for the great initiative of the support walk; he pointed out that the State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo, has demonstrated so much capacity in administrating the activities of Rivers youths.
“Partnering with CIPA for the great walk in support of Sim Fubara was a welcome idea by Rivers youths who proved their support by the massive participation in the walk as they got to a point where crowd control became a little challenging, but to the glory of God, no casualties were recorded.
“Rivers youth has shown their full support for the candidature of Sim Fubara and has resolved to vote massively during the 2023 general election,” the statement said.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.

highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
