Mrs Obaseki Explins Medical Outreach
Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, on Sunday, said that the free medical outreach programme organised by the state government was to appreciate the people of the state for their support at ensuring victory for the governor in 2020.
The governor’s wife stated this at a news conference in Benin City.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the news was aimed at announcing the commencemaent of free medical care for residents by the state government, in partnership with Association of Nigeria Physicians in the Americas (ANPA).
Obaseki said that the medical mission was also to thank the people of the state for their continued support to the governor who had taken their health as a priority.
She said that the list of indigent patients that required medical care had all been captured in the free medical mission.
The governor’s wife listed some of the services that residents would enjoy to include: cardiology, nephrology, ophthalmology and dental surgery, among others.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, said that 4,000 people had been screened, with 600 other requiring surgical intervention while 300 were ready for surgeries.
Akoria noted that 65 highly qualified specialists from ANPA were already in the state to team up with 200 volunteers, including clinical and non-clinical volunteers.
In his contribution, President of ANPA, Dr Christopher Okunseri, said that the association’s aim was to provide free medical care for the people in anticipation of a healthier Nigeria.
Okunseri commended Obaseki for initiating the collaboration, expressing his association’s readiness to deliver quality healthcare services to Edo people.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Edo Specialist Hospital, Prof. Sunday Adeboye, said that all venues were set for the free medical mission.
Adeboye said that provisions had been made for people with chronic diseases who would need to continue their care and treatment after the end of the mission.
He noted that arrangements had been made to enroll such people into the State Health Insurance Scheme for easy access to quality care.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
