2023 Presidency: Rivers’ PDP Shrugs Off Amaechi’s Declaration
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has said that the recent declaration as presidential aspirant by Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon. Chubiuke Rotimi Amaechi on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not a threat to its chances of winning in Rivers State and Nigeria come 2023 general election.
The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Sydney Gbara dismissed the declaration, last Monday, while chatting with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to him, Amaechi as transportation minister for seven years did not touch the lives of Rivers people in the areas of Federal Government projects and programmes.
He said the APC presidential aspirant did not have anything like federal project to convince the people of Rivers State and the country in general to vote for him and his party, if elected as candidate.
“The declaration by Chibuike Amaechi before a rented crowd in Port Harcourt is not a threat at all to PDP, because he has not attracted a single project into the state or South-South region.
“Amaechi only dwelling on failed promises that he will do a railway from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri, we have not seen it; he said he will do this, he will do that but we have not seen anything.
“So, nothing to show or tell Rivers people as the reasons why they should support him for president,”Gbara said.
The PDP publicity secretary said Governor Nyesom Wike as presidential aspirant in PDP has done a lot of visible and viable projects across the state.
He said the projects done so far by PDP in the state would speak for Wike, not only in Rivers State, but in Nigeria as a country.
“The Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike has done well in the areas of infrastructure development, security, education, health, among other sectors.
“He has projects done in all the 23 local government areas; PDP has something to show Rivers’ people to support him for president.
“But for Ameachi, charity begins at home; he has nothing to show Rivers people to support him and his party.
“He has taken everything that is supposed to come to Rivers State to Daura in the Northern part of the country; Rivers people cannot support him for president”, the publicity secretary said.
The PDP spokesman called on Rivers people to ignore the presidential aspiration of the minister, saying that his ambition cannot take him and his party to anywhere, as PDP is sure to take over Aso Rock and rescue the country from poverty and insecurity.
