RSG Still Committed To Sponsoring External Exams For Public School Students -Ebeku
The Commissioner for Education, Rivers State, Professor Kaniye Ebeku , has re-echoed the State government’s commitment to bankrolling public examinations for all candidates in government schools in the State.Briefing Principals of public schools, Parents Teachers Association (PRA) and other stakeholders in his office in Port Harcourt Monday, he explained the new procedure for the registration of candidates for the 2022 UTME (JAMB). According to him: “His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike, is very committed to funding and sponsoring public examinations in the State.” Ebeku said the briefing was imperative to provide the public with information on the bureaucracy in government with regards to bankrolling public projects and to quash malicious claims that government is reneging on its earlier promise of funding public examinations. He said: “too often I find that even journalists do not have the facts and they go on criticizing the government. I called this meeting so I can inform the public through the journalists and the principals the procedure for financing public examinations, of which the government is totally committed”.
He further explained that procedures outlined by public examination bodies may create bottlenecks, and consequential delays are often misunderstood and wrongly attributed to lack of commitment on the part of government.
The education commissioner also addressed the issue of truancy recorded in some schools across the state, noting that supervisors have been deployed to schools and erring staff will face appropriate sanctions.
