Obuah Lauds Wike’s Efforts To Check Artisanal Oil Refining
As the Rivers State Government’s clampdown on illegal oil refinery operators across the state rages on with a marching order to council chairmen and traditional rulers to join in the war against the artisanal trade in their various domains, the Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro Felix Obuah, has commended Governor Nyesom Wike for taking the bull by the horn.
Obuah said that Wike deserves more than a pat on the back for all his efforts to guarantee the safety of the mass of Rivers people and those doing business in the state.
A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the RIWAMA boss, Jerry Needam, quoted Obuah as saying, “There is no gainsaying the fact that soot constitutes serious health hazard in the state and has put the lives of several people on the line, and should not be allowed to continue unchecked”.
It is against this backdrop, Obuah observed, that the action and directives of the governor should be appreciated and complemented by all concerned and relevant authorities.
“The governor, having played his part by clamping down on those behind the wanton spread of soot in the state under the guise of struggling for survival in the face of economic hardship in the country, all hands should be on deck to help him by reporting such illegal operators and sites to relevant authorities for the collective safety of all Rivers people and residents,” Obuah said.
