LASG Upgrades College Of Education To University
Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) in Lagos has been upgraded to a university.
The institution will now be known as Lagos State University of Education (LASUED).
In July, the House of Assembly Committee on Education (Tertiary Institutions) commenced work on AOCOED elevation.
In a statement on Thursday, the Chairman, Ajani Owolabi, provided an update on the reform.
The lawmaker recalled that the legislature considered his committee’s report on the University of Education, Lagos (UNEDLAG) Bill, 2021.
Owolabi said after consultations and deliberations, some changes were made and included in recommendations.
It was agreed that ‘UNEDLAG’ be deleted and replaced with ‘LASUED’ meaning ‘Lagos State University of Education’.
Clause 39 (1) will now read: “The University shall operate a Multi-Campus system with the Main Campus in Adenran Ogunsanya, Otto/Ijanikin and its Annex at Micheal Otedola, Noforija, Epe.”
Other locations will be determined “by the Visitors or Council from time to time”, the statement added.
Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ogun State is the first in Nigeria after its status was upped from College of Education in 2005.
