Residents Arrest Suspected Kidnappers’ Informant In C’River

A man suspected to be a kidnapper‘s informant has been arrested in Cross River State by residents who are at rage with happenings in their environment.
The development came following the release of three out of the six kidnapped victims from Lemna Community in Calabar Municipality of the state.
The Tide learnt that the victims were released in far away Esuk Mba (a beach market) in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state on Sunday evening.
A local vigilante who spoke on the security challenges in the community told newsmen that kidnappers were on rampage in the locality, urging the state government to help increase security presence to tackle the menace.
While confirming the release of the victims, the local security personnel who reportedly spoke on anonymity, said that three victims were set free by the assailants after an undisclosed payment of ransoms.
The kidnapped victims have been reportedly returned to their families. One of the victims identified as Emmanuel Ashibel is reported to be from the Department of Due Process and Procurement, Cross River State.
Speaking on the arrest of the suspected informant, the community official said the suspect was apprehended by a joint task force of security operatives in the Lemna Community in the early hours of Monday.
The suspect was said to have paraded himself as a mentally deranged person, clearing roadblocks mounted by local vigilante groups in the area.
More information gathered indicated that three waiting speed boats possibly brought the suspected kidnappers. They sped off on receiving news of the arrest of the suspected informant.
Also confirming the development, the Commissioner of police in the State, Aminu Alhassan said his men had been deployed to the Lemna community.
