Sack Your Economic Management Team Now, Group Tells Buhari
A civil society organisation, New Era For Sustainable Leadership and Accountability Initiative (NESLAI), has asked President MuhammaduBuhari, to sack his economic management team, stating that they have failed in their responsibility to the nation.
It advised the Federal Government to get more competent hands that could deliver the economic prosperity he promised Nigerians.
Addressing journalists on the economic situation in the country in Abuja, yesterday, the Executive Director, NESLAI, Edwin Femi, also frowned on the failure of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, to retire after attaining the mandatory retirement age.
The group condemned the monetary policy being pursued by the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, saying it was enabling mass impoverishment.
Femi said, “It is a shame that in this Information Age, the Central Bank of Nigeria is led by base instincts and reactionary policies if the random pronouncements being made by the CBN governor can be described as policies.
“The CBN has turned itself into an enabler of mass impoverishment as no logic can explain the draconian monetary policy and regulatory regime being run by Mr Godwin Emefiele as he is trying to hoodwink Nigerians while a few individuals enrich themselves off massive foreign exchange spreads.”
The activist also berated the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, stressing that she has shown “a record level of nonchalance and lack of empathy for the suffering of Nigerians.”
Femi added, “Furthermore, she has displayed a worrying streak of cluelessness in managing the Nigerian economy. What we expected from her right now is to daily engage with the media on the performance of the economy as is being done in other countries.
“We call on Mr President to take a closer look at his economic management team and effect necessary changes as he did recently in firing two ministers. The minister of finance and the CBN Governor have to go.”
