APC Spokesperson Dumps Party In Rivers …Eyes Move To PDP
The immediate past spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, has officially dumped the party, citing marginalization and non-inclusion of Etche ethnic nationality in the development agenda of the APC-led Federal Government as the reason for dumping the party.
Nwuke, an ally of the Minister of Transportation and leader of APC in the state, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, had last week, resigned his position as the spokesperson of the party, which provoked various insinuations that he left the party to the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Addressing journalists at his private residence in Port Harcourt, last Monday, the former chieftain of Rivers APC said, in the comity of the 23 local government area of the state, Etche has been left empty without any federal appointment, saying that the people need new partners to move the place forward.
He said that when the party came to the state, the people were promised change but regrettably, the change has not come to my people.
According to him, “what Etche people are asking for is inclusion, we have not felt the impact of the change we preached for in the past six years, and only what we could get is SA to NDDC, member Governing Council, Federal College of Education, and former public compliant commissioner”.
Nwuke said that his exit from the APC was not anticipated but stressed that a time comes in a man’s life to make decisions and that was what has happened.
“I think it is time to step outside and leave APC, though it was not anticipated that a day like this will come but I gathered you all my friends and colleagues that I have left APC for now. There is popular saying that ‘if a church cannot change you, change the church’’’.
When asked, which political party he was going to pitch his tent, Nwuke was quick to say for now, only PDP is beckoning on him, adding that there would be a declaration to formally receive him into PDP.
“You know that we have only two major political parties in the state, the PDP and the APC, so, if I have left one, certainly, I will be moving to the other. I said PDP is beckoning”, he stated.
Nwuke, however, expressed optimism that his exit from APC may bring hope to the frustration the people of Etche were facing, adding that he left a united APC in the state.
