Women Group Hails Wike Over Choice Of Cookey-Gam
As Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike continues to break more political grounds in Nigeria; more encomiums have started pouring in for Mr Projects, describing him as God-sent to Rivers people.
Those who spoke to The Tide mostly Opobo women under the aegis of Opobo Women Welfare Association (OWWA), described the governor as a man of his words and an achiever, stressing that since he took over leadership of the state six years ago, the state has witnessed remarkable progress and infrastructural development in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
President of the group, Amaopuorubo Felicia Pepple lauded the governor for the support given to the executive chairman of Opobo/Nkoro local government council, Rt. Hon. Enyiada Cookey-Gam, stating that his level of support and assistance to Opobo/Nkoro were commendable.
They used the opportunity to congratulate the chairman of Opobo/Nkoro local government council, Rt. Hon Enyiada Cookey-Gam for his victory at the polls and his subsequent inauguration, describing him as a round peg in a round hole.
The group which celebrates its golden jubilee in December, this year further thanked the governor for the choice of Rt. Hon Cookey-Gam to saddle the responsibility of the LGA and prayed that God Almighty should continue to grant both Wike and Cookey-Gam the wisdom and strength to carry out their legitimate good works in the state and local government area respectively.
The group which was the brain behind the construction of the only secondary school in Opobo, corpers lodge, post office and other achievements, assured the chairman of their readiness to partner with his administration’s six point development agenda through prayers to move the LGA forward developmentally, urges other leaders and NGOs in the area to rally round the council chairman to provide long lasting transformation.
Meanwhile, the organization has appealed to the council boss, Rt Hon Enyiada Cookey-Gam to provide them with mobility, empowerment for its indigent members and other demanding support, especially the scheduled celebration of her 50th Anniversary which comes on December, 2021 at Opobo Town.
While playing host to the group at Opobo Town recently, chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Council, Rt Hon Enyiada Cookey-Gam assured them of his administration support at all times but admonished the group to pray for the success of the government.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
