… Total Public Debt Reaches N33.107trn, DMO Confirms
The Debt Management Office (DMO) says Nigeria’s Public Debt Stock is N33.107trillion (about $87.239billion), as at March 31, 2021.
A statement obtained from DMO’s website says that the total public Debt Stock comprised of the debt stock of the Federal Government of Nigeria, 36 state governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), respectively.
The debt stock also includes Promissory Notes in the sum of N940.220billion issued to settle the inherited arrears of the FGN to state governments, oil marketing companies, exporters and local contractors.
The report said that compared to the Total Public Debt Stock of N32.916trillion as at December 31, 2020, a marginal increase of 0.58 per cent was recorded in the Debt Stock.
Further analysis shows that the increase was in the Domestic Debt Stock which grew by 2.11 per cent from N20.21trillion in December, 2020 to N20.637trillion as at March 31, 2021.
According to the DMO, the FGN’s share of the domestic debt includes FGN bonds, Sukuk and Green Bonds used to finance infrastructure and other capital projects as well as the N940.220billion promissory notes.
“External Debt Stock declined from $33.348billion as at December 31, 2020, to $32.86billion due to the redemption by Nigeria of the $500million Eurobond in January, 2021.”
Domestic Debt Stock which grew by 2.11 per cent from N20.21trillion in December, 2020 to N20.637trillion as at March 31, 2021.
Of the N612.7billion spent on domestic debt servicing, the highest amount of N270billion was spent in March.
In January, N219.3billion was spent, while in February it fell to N123billion.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
