Stop Pushing Education Of Your Child Faster Than Necessary – JAMB
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called on parents to desist from over fastening the education of their children and wards to allow the children gain maturity in tackling their education issues.
This is coming on the heels of the overcrowding of the JAMB’s Computer-Based Testing(CBT) Centres by parents and guardians as observed by the board.
The Registrar, JAMB, Prof. Is’hag Oloyede in a statement ordered all CBT Centres across the nation to prevent parents/guardians into the registration halls.
Oloyede said” it has been discovered that the parents/guardians are always a distraction to both candidates and the centres and at the same time congesting the halls by not following the Covid-19 protocols.
“For example, a 14 or 15 year old is not matured enough to undergo the process of registration and university pressure and are vulnerable to exploitation by scammers out there”, he said.
Oloyede maintained that should the normal age of children and or candidates be followed strictly, they can single-handedly and confidently tackle registration processes thereby stressed the need for parents to leave the children alone to create confidence in them.
The Registrar further advised state’s ministries of education and other relevant stakeholders in the sector who were saddled with the responsibility of enrollment of students into secondary Schools to be sure of the students’ true age before offering admissions.
Meanwhile, a cross section of parents who spoke with The Tide in PortHarcourt said they accompanied their children to the Centres in order to be sure of what the children were doing.
“Experience has taught us a lesson. Most times these children come alone and they end up being deceived by the JAMB personnels so we decided to come check it out by ourselves and that way we are sure they have been truly registered”, they said.
