NUJ Pushes Reconciliation, Condemns Rising Insecurity, Economic Woes
The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has vowed to ensure that all aggrieved parties in the union were reconciled for the greater good of the union.
The national leadership, which gave the assurance at the end of National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Asaba, Delta State, at the weekend, also condemned the spate of insecurity and economic downturn rattling the country, despite efforts by well-meaning Nigerians to reposition the nation for sustainable, progressive development at all levels.
The union’s position was contained in a communiqué compiled and signed by John Angese, Ishaka Dedan Donald, Ladi Emmanuel, and the National Secretary of the union, Shuaibu Usman Leman, and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt.
The NEC meeting was attended by national officers and chairmen and secretaries of 36 state councils and the FCT, and deliberated on issues affecting the union while x-raying the state of the nation with a view to proffering recommendations for implementation by the government.
On the state of the union, the communiqué read, “The issue of SWAN, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria was discussed exhaustively and NEC resolves that a seven-member committee be set up to conduct fresh election for the association within two months.
The members are, NUJ National Treasurer, Mohammed She, as chairman; Vice President, Zone F, Edward Ogude (member); Chairman, Lagos Council, Adeleye Ajayi (member); while two members each will be selected from the contending groups.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
