FG Cancels Meeting With Striking Poly Lecturers, Judiciary Workers

The Federal Government, yesterday, cancelled the planned meetings with the striking polytechnic lecturers and Judiciary workers, just before the time scheduled for the meeting, yesterday.
No reason was given for the cancellation of the parleys which were meant to get the members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) to call off their indefinite strike action.
The spokesperson, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr Charles Akpan, confirmed in a text message that the meetings had been shelved.
The poly workers are demanding the implementation of the 2014 NEEDS Report, the release of revitalisation fund to the sector, reconstitution of governing councils in federal polytechnics and state-owned institutions, among other things.
JUSUN on the other hand is asking for financial autonomy for the Judiciary and the implementation of Executive Order 10 signed by President Muhammadu Buhari, in May, last year.
The polytechnics and the courts had been shut down following the strike action by the lecturers and the judicial workers.
