2020 Flood: Rivers Community Gets NEMA Relief Materials
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has handed over relief materials worth millions of naira to Ataba community in Andoni Local Government Area, for onward distributions to flood victims in the community.
The materials which include, food items are, 291 bags of rice, 291 bags of garri and 291 bags of beans.
Also handed over were 30 kegs of vegetable oil, 49 cartons of seasoning, 224 cartons of tinned tomatoes, 135 bags of salt, 582 pieces of mosquitoes nets and 582 pieces of mattresses.
The rest are 582 pieces of wax prints, 582 pieces of blanket, 800 pieces of ceiling board, 800 bags of cement, 800 bundles of roofing sheet, 200 packets of zinc, nails and 100 bags of nails.
NEMA team leader Thiokman Tanima, said the gesture was part of Federal Government’s commitment to alleviate the sufferings of the over 200 displaced persons in the area.
He stressed the need for the community to ensure that the items got to everyone affected by the flood disaster in the area.
The Okan Ama of Ataba Kingdom HRH Sir (Dr) Benson M. Egwenre (Oruk XVII) thanked the Federal Government for the gesture, adding that it will help to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
King Egwenre who described this year’s flood as one of the worst, called on the government to find a permanent solution to flooding in the community.
Also speaking, the chairman Community Development Committee (CDC), Ataba Elder Johnson F. Owajima, said the committee will ensure that those affected benefitted from the gesture.
Also speaking the community’s women leader, Mrs Elfrida Godfrey Heyford, said all women affected by the incident will benefit.
It would be recalled that over 200 persons were displaced by the flood in the community this year.
