Rivers Community Wants Recognition Of Chieftaincy Stool
Iriebe community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has called for the recognition of its chieftaincy stool by the state government.
A cross section of indigenes of the community who spoke to newsmen in an interview regretted that the community which is one of the largest in Rivers State had no government recognised chief.
Speaking with newsmen, the Paramount Ruler of Iriebe Community Eze Jeremiah Worenwu pleaded with the state government to consider the recognition of the Iriebe chieftaincy stool.
Eze Worenwu said the community which is a major oil producer in Nigeria, also houses some major state and federal projects.
He said the community also had a population larger than many Kingdoms in the state, stressing that the non- recognition by government of the community’s chieftaincy stool has not enabled it to contain the high level of migration into the area.
“I want to plead with Governor Wike to classify the Iriebe chieftaincy stool. This community is over 200 years old as its population is increasing everyday” he said.
According to him, the recognition of the stool will improve security in the area, as well as go along way in ensuring better coordination of the various developmental programmes in the area.
He commended Governor Nyesom Wike for embarking on numerous people- oriented projects in the community and listed some of the projects to include low cost housing estate built by the Governor during his first tenure in office and roads.
