Group Wants Engagement Of Stakeholders To End Communal Violence
A socio-cultural organisation and pressure group in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State known as Babbe Vanguard has called for the engagement of critical stakeholders to end violence and other forms of criminal activities in local communities.
President of the body, Comrade Dick Nwiku gave the urge during the formal dedication of the body at On God’s Stone Ministry, Royal Avenue, Elioparanwo Port Harcourt.
Nwiku who spoke with newsmen shortly after the dedication service, said local communities had been deprived of communal peace and order as a result of violence related activities, noting that such anomalies could be curbed through the efforts of community based organizations, traditional institution, religious bodies and other critical stakeholders.
He said the body was formed essentially to promote peace and development in Babbe Kingdom, Ogoni and Rivers State in general.
He commended the efforts of some committed leaders in Babbe towards the promotion of peace in the area and urged the youths to embrace the peace process to promote sustainable development in Babbe.
Nwiku who is also the secretary of Babbe Council of Chiefs and Elders said the body was poised to partner with key stakeholders in Babbe to ensure that lasting peace returns to Babbe and the entire Ogoni.
Earlier in his sermon, Apostle Fiinor Waribor had commended members of the body for coming together with the objectives of promoting the peace and development of Babbe Kingdom.
In her sermon the Presiding Pastor of the Church charged the members of the body to remain focused to achieve the objectives of peace and development in Babbe and Ogoni in general.
She said , “ no meaningful development can take place in an environment where there is no peace, I urge you not to relent in your objectives of promoting peace on Babbe, Ogoni and the entire Niger Delta.”
She added that the body should always seek the presence of God in their activities to achieve their aims and objectives.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
