Air Passengers Decry Rate Of Touting At PH Airport
Travellers that use the Port Harcourt International Airport have expressed displeasure over the high rate of touting at the airport.
Some of the travellers, who spoke to The Tide on the issue, noted that the rate of touting at the Port Harcourt airport was much higher than what it was in other airports in the country.
They alleged that some security operatives at the airport were involved in the menace.
Expressing his view on the matter, a regular Abuja passenger, Mr Julius Anyanwu, said what he saw anytime he travelled through the Port Harcourt airport with respect to touting, was very unusual, compared to other airports in the country.
“It appears everybody wants to make money without restraint. Even those on uniform do the same thing, and you see them at the tarmac every time, even when they don’t have business there.
“There tends to be a free assess to everybody in Port Harcourt airport. People come here just to look for money anyhow, and there is no proper restriction, even at the VIP lounge”, he said.
Another air traveller, Mrs Patricia Idegwu, blamed the situation in Port Harcourt airport on the level of hardship and high cost of living in Port Harcourt.
Nevertheless, she maintained that airport was an international community, and that the standard should be the same so as not to project the airport in bad light, wondering why the Port Harcourt airport was porous.
