Vice Chancellor Seeks Proactive Measures Against Communal Conflicts

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Gombe State University of Science and Technology Kumo, Prof James Bako Kaltho, has called for proactive measures by all stakeholders in nipping in the bud, communal crises that have engulfed several ethnic communities in the country.
According to him, “communal conflicts and the shame and losses associated with, which happens among our communities in the larger region can be solved through consultations using best practices from elsewhere”.
He was speaking as the guest speaker during the 2019 annual Tangale Day tagged “ Pissi Tangle 2019” held at the Billiri township stadium, where he strongly posited that the basic principle worldwide is that problems are not solved through force or outsmarting each other, but through proactive measures and negotiations appealing to common grounds of survival and development.
While calling for cultural reorientation among the people, Prof James regretted that the poor management of Tangale’s land resources through the destruction of trees without replacement, poor resolution practices of farmland disputes through disregard of indigenous institutions and dismantling inter-family agreements of past and disregard for networking to understand common and community needs and strategies and to positively respond.
He pointed out that cocooning through poor access and utilization of information in the public domain, as well as disregard for Tangle language use and instruction of youths and children, are some of the challenges facing the Tangale people today.
He commended the State Government’s vigorous campaign programme of ‘Gombe Goes Green’ and called on the Tangale nation to take the front seat of the effort at all levels.
The Mai Tangle, Dr. Abdu Buba Maisheru, commended the Inuwa Yahaya administration in it efforts at bringing developmental programmes to the people of the State and called on his people to support Government so that more developments would be achieved.
