IG Orders Tight Security For Christmas, New Year Celebrations
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered police commands and formations to beef up security nationwide ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Adamu has also directed zonal Assistant Inspectors-General and Command Commissioners of Police to strengthen crime prevention strategies in their respective jurisdictions before, during and after the festivities.
Force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday, said the order was in line with efforts targeted at ensuring peaceful and hitch-free Christmas and New Year Celebrations,
The IGP reiterated effective deployment of both human and material assets of the Force in protecting the major highways, recreational centres, motor – parks, places of worship, financial institutions and Government/Private Infrastructures amongst others.
“In addition, the IGP directed that the supervisory officers must ensure that they are personally on ground to monitor and supervise the officers and men under their watch for optimal performance.
“The IGP strongly warns police operatives, especially those detailed to man the high-ways to desist from all forms of misconduct and abuse of the rights of the citizenry and to adhere strictly to laid-down rules and standard operating procedures of the Force.
“He further warns that any reported act bordering on unprofessionalism, including extortion and intimidation of road users will be investigated and decisively punished”, the statement read.
Adamu expressed profound gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support to the Police and other security agencies throughout the year and wished all citizens a happy yuletide and New Year.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
