RSG Retired 2,093 Civil Servants Since 2015 -Onyiri
No less than 2,093 civil servants have retired from the Rivers State Civil Service from 2015 till date.
The Chairman, Rivers State Civil Service Commission, Chief Oris Onyiri, who disclosed this at a send-forth ceremony for retirees of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications between 2015 and 2019, said that 97 of this number retired from the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Onyiri, who was represented by a commissioner in the commission, Konfan Harry, charged the retirees to see their new status as an opportunity to impact positively on their communities.
While thanking the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for amending the Contributory Pension Scheme Act, which migrated the retirees to the old Defined Pension Scheme, Onyiri expressed the hope that with the on-going biometric exercise for retirees in the state, some of them might soon start receiving their pensions.
Also speaking, the state Head of Service, Barrister Rufus Godwins, thanked the Ministry of Information and Communications for organizing the send-forth ceremony in spite of the harsh economic climate in the country.
Godwins, who was represented by a Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Service, Sir Nnamdi Okpe, said the retirees were endowed with abundant potentials for the development of their communities.
He charged those in service to put in their best, stressing everyone, both serving and retired, have a duty to protect government facilities anywhere in the state.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, said the ceremony shows that the retirees were being appreciated for their services to the ministry.
Nsirim said his office was open to any of them, and expressed the hope that the event would bring something good to the lives of the retirees.
He also thanked directors and staff of the ministry for their sacrifices towards the successful hosting of the ceremony.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.

highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
