Okrika Youths Set To Organise Festival
The President General of Wakirike Youth Federation (WYF), Comrade Charles T. Melford, has said that arrangement for the body to organise the maiden edition of Kon Festival is in top gear.
According to him, the event will hold in December.
He stated that the three-day festival is first of its kind in recent times and its geared towards fostering the existing peace and unify the Wakirike people in Rivers State.
Melford said this while briefing newsmen yesterday in Port Harcourt, saying that the Wakirike has abundant cultural values
He explained that Kon festival, is a fishing festival that will depict the rich traditional fishing gift of Wakirike people, adding that the festival has the features and potentials to be added in the world tourism calendar.
“The idea of this novelty event was conceived by members of WYF with the aim to foster the existing peace and expose the rich traditional fishing and masquerade displays and dance steps of Wakirike people to the outside world.”
Apart from that, he said the Kon festival is also aimed at unifying the Wakirike Kingdom.
He used the forum to commend King Ateke Tom, the Amanyanabo of Okochiri, for his immense contributions towards the festival.
“We thank our royal father, King Ateke Tom and other Amanyanapus of Wakirike Kingdom for their various contributions towards the festival”, he stated.
The President General also appealed to multinational companies, politicians and well meaning individuals to support the event to succeed.
