Activist Tasks Ministers On N’Delta Dev
A Niger Delta activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, has challenged the new Ministers on President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet from the Niger Delta region to ensure that they use the powers of their offices to work for the even development of the region.
The environmental rights advocate, stated this in a statement in his office in Warri, Delta State.
Mulade said that this admonition has become necessary because who much is given, much is expected”, adding, since Buhari has found them worthy of serving in their various capacities as ministers on behalf of the people of the region, they should bequeath shining legacies that Niger Delta people should remember them for in the future.
He, however, congratulated the newly inaugurated ministers, saying that although those appointed from the Niger Delta region are meant to serve the entire country, it was incumbent on them to make the people of the region feel the impact of their office, by influencing the citing and completion of development projects in the Niger Delta.
Mulade, felicitated with Festus Keyamo (SAN) (Delta), Chief Timipre Sylva (Bayelsa), Senator Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi (Rivers), Dr Osagie Ehanire and Clement Agba (Edo), Emeka Nwajuba (Imo), Godwin Jedi-Agba (Cross River), Tayo Alasoadura (Ondo), and Dr Uchechukwu Ogah (Abia), urging them to attract uncommon governance and development to the grassroots in the Niger Delta region.
The development activist noted that with the former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva as Minister of State for Petroleum, former Ggovernor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio as Niger Delta Minister, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, as Minister of State for Niger Delta, former governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi as Minister of Transportation, the Niger Delta region was on the path of rapid physical and socio-economic development.
The 10 Niger Deltans were among the 43 ministers that were assigned portfolios and inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, last Wednesday, giving the oil-rich region a sense of belonging and a display of an all inclusive government.
