Edo Distributes More Relief Materials To Flood Victims
The Edo State Government has distributed the second batch of relief materials comprising food and building items to victims of flood disaster in five local government areas (LGAs) of the state.
Speaking to journalists after presenting the items to representatives of the various LGAs, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Yakubu Gowon said the materials were being donated to victims of the 2018 flood disaster.
He listed the five benefiting LGAs as Ikpoba Okha, Oredo, Ovia North East, Uhunmwode and Estako East, saying that they were initially given some relief materials last year when the disaster occurred.
”Sometimes last year, rain storm affected about five LGAs, we gave some relief materials to them last year and today, we have perishable and non-perishable materials to give to the affected communities.
”The items include bags of rice, garri, beans, gallons of red and vegetable oil, bundle of zinc roofing sheets, nails and noodles.”
He said that the state government was currently putting in place flood control measures in the affected areas to prevent future reoccurrence.
The representatives from the receiving LGAs appreciated the state government for the donations, assuring that the distribution committee set up last year would ensure the materials got to the affected victims.
The Protocol Officer to Uhunmwode Council Chairman, Mr Lucky Idehen, said, “We thank the governor for ameliorating the condition of the people of the council who were affected by flood.
”The governor has brought succour to us and we are grateful,” he said.
