SPDC Fetes The Elderly In Host Communities
The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria Limited and its joint venture have kept aside one day tagged: ‘Management Day Out With the Elderly in Land Hub Communities, to give the elderly the honour due them.
This year’s SPDC Management Day out with the Elderly kicked-started with the free medical health test done on the elderly to ascertain their health status and give them results of the diagnoses to enable them buy the necessary drugs needed for them to get well.
The Tide in an interview with the Public Health Nurse, Mrs Blessing Amadi, stated that the programme was an annual event and it was mainly for chiefs and elderly men and women drawn from the 15 clusters in the Land East Hub that makes up over 200 communities engaged in by the Team of Social Investment Performance.
Amadi noted that the gesture by SPDC which included health test must be commended as the elderly found it hard to go for periodic check up due basically to their age and unwillingness, adding that including medical test in the programme for the elderly would give all of them the ample opportunity to acess healthcare.
She stressed that many elderly in the society were moving about with very heavy Blood pressure without knowing it, warning that it is a good practice that everyone knows their health status so as to avoid the unexpected.
Also speaking, the SPDC Asset Manager, Land Hub, Mr Sam Ezugworie, stated that the progamme was an initiative taken some years ago to appreciate the elderly in the 15 clusters of over 200 communities where SPDC operated in the Niger Delta region.
