Group Wants Oil Firms To Review Employment Policies
A body known as Ogoni Youth Development Initiative (OYDI) has urged oil companies operating in Ogoni, Rivers State to review their employment policies to cover all communities in the four local government areas of Ogoni.
President of the body, Comrade Oscar Saviour Imeabe, gave the charge in a press statement made available to The Tide, at the weekend.
The statement which was signed by the OYDI President, disclosed that; “we the Ogoni Youth Development Initiative are deeply concerned about the discriminatory employment policies, operated by companies operating in Ogoni land, such as Indorama, Eleme Petro-chemical, Port Harcourt Refining Company, Notori, among others. It is painful to note that these companies deliberately sideline the youths of the various communities of Ogoni and even conduct their recruitments and employments secretively; this is unacceptable and we want a review of such policies for optimal benefits of all communities in Ogoni.
The body particularly faulted what it described as the oppressive and nonchalant attitude of the Port Harcourt Refining Company which shunned the overtures made by the body to seek audience with the company over its skewed employment policy.
The statement indicated that all communities in Ogoni suffered the hazards and environmental pollution accruing from the operations of these companies, saying since “pollution is not selective; employment should also not be selective”.
The body said it was still consulting with critical stakeholders in Ogoni to address the issues and regretted the fact that the companies have remained adamant to the request of the body.
The president pointed out that it was ironical that despite the presence of myriad of multinational companies in Ogoni, unemployment rate was still high among the youth, leading to social vices in Ogoni land.
He called on the Federal Government to intervene in the matter by ensuring that all companies operating in Ogoni gave considerable attention to the teeming Ogoni youths in terms of employment.
The body also vowed to mobilise its rank and file to protest the poor employment policy, if nothing was done.

Dangote Refinery Resumes Gantry Self-Collection Sales, Tuesday
This is revealed in an email communication from the Group Commercial Operations Department of the company, and obtained by Newsmen, at the Weekend.
The company explained that while gantry access is being reinstated, the free delivery service remains operational, with marketers encouraged to continue registering their outlets for direct supply at no additional cost.
The statement said “in reference to the earlier email communication on the suspension of the PMS self-collection gantry sales, please note that we will be resuming the self-collection gantry sales on the 23rd of September, 2025”.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery also apologised to its partners for any inconvenience the suspension may have caused, while assuring stakeholders of its commitment to improving efficiency and ensuring seamless supply.
“Meanwhile, please be informed that we are aggressively delivering on the free delivery scheme, and it is still open for registration. We encourage you to register your stations and pay for the product to be delivered directly to you for free. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” it added.
It would be recalled that in September 18, 2025, Dangote refinery had suspended gantry-based self-collection of petroleum products at its depot. The move was designed to accelerate the adoption of its Free Delivery Scheme, which guarantees direct shipments of petroleum products to registered retail outlets across Nigeria.
The refinery stressed that the earlier decision was an operational adjustment aimed at streamlining efficiency in the downstream supply chain.
