FRONT PAGE COMMENT: A Toast To Mr Project @51
A minute dissection of his personality throws up some uncommon traits. At first look, his casual, almost unnoticeable dress code that suggests simple mien; the usual frown on his face that typifies serious candour, occasional broad smile and a brisk walk often give him away as a commoner.
But a close look at his demeanour brings out the uncanny personality in him. Gutsy, yet not rude. Dogged, yet acquiescent. Self-assured, yet unassuming.
With an imposing, almost intimidating posture, a unique voice and nimble pantomime that sometimes send jitters down the spine of his critics and political adversaries, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is imbued with a measured gusto and personality.
Although he is not a war general, he has fought and won many battles. He commands a large battalion of troops even when he owns no gun. In Nigeria’s political firmament, Wike is, no doubt, a generalissimo with an uncommon, huge war chest and a seemingly impregnable political fortress. He walks and works where many others dread. He is like a proverbial cat with nine lives, standing firm and resolute in the face of onslaught.
Chief Wike is not a known rabble rouser; neither he is a gadfly. He hardly courts controversy, but he doesn’t run from just fight. He does not also give in to compromised diplomacy. He is, in fact, averse to undignified silence. He keeps quiet when necessary and thunders when the need arises. Little wonder his words are law among his peers.
