PH Killing: Police, Vigilante Differ On Casualty Figure
The Rivers State Police Command and members of the Diobu Vigilante Group (DVG) are not in agreement over the casualty figure recorded during last Thursday’s attack on members of the group by unidentified gunmen in Port Harcourt.
While the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni said only one person died in the attack, spokesman of the vigilante group, Prince Amatari insisted that two of his members were killed.
Amatari claimed that the hoodlums invaded his home with weapons to probably assasinate him, but that when they did not find him, they proceeded to attack other members of the vigilante.
Amatari, while speaking on a live Radio news in Port Harcourt and monitored by our reporter confirmed that Ifeanyi Chimele Amadi one of the victims of the attack, died while being rushed to the hospital with the assistance of the police.
He said, “I escaped an assassination attempt by1:20am (last Thursday) where hoodlums numbering about eight broke my iron door, cut the padlock, they were well armed and when they did not find me inside, they came out, shot nto the air and went straight to Anozie by Illabuchi, cut one of the security on his head. They went to Timber (in Diobu) where they shot a vigilante member by name George, they also went to Saint Thomas by Ikwerre Road, shot another of our member (Chimele Amadi) who were all confirmed dead at BMH (Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital).
Mr Amatari appealed to the Rivers State government to intervene as the functions of the vigilante group are to assist security agencies to protect lives and property in the area.
