Commissioner Explains PCC, NUJ’s Partnership
The Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Mr. Marshall Israel has said that part of the reasons for seeking partnership with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State council, is to aid in the fight against administrative injustice and other issues.
He said this when he led members of the commission to the office of the state chairman of NUJ, Mr. Stanley Job Stanley in Port Harcourt, Thursday.
Israel pointed out that the partnership became imperative in order to create awareness about the existence of the commission in the state.
The Federal Commissioner expressed regrets on the grounds of people’s inability to utilise the opportunities available to them in the agency.
He also revealed that they are into alternative dispute resolution which he said had yielded positive results.
According to him, the commission had reduced litigations in the regular counts through its various channels.
Such litigations, he explained, cut across both the public and the private sectors, thereby bringing police related issues to a low level.
“We have resolved cases both from the public and private sectors, we also discourage police involvement in cases”, he said.
On how to access their services, he hinted that it was easy adding that its services could be obtained without charges.
Moreover, the Federal Commissioner stressed the need to collaborate with NUJ, saying that they were ready to attend all its programmes as a way forward.
The Rivers State NUJ chairman, Mr. Stanley Job Stanley, who welcomed the statement of the Federal Commissioner said that the union was into similar idea of rendering services to members of the public.
While appreciating the efforts of the commission, he also advised them on the issue of public enlightenment programmes as to create more awareness of the agency’s existence in the state.
