Ajibade Rescues Falconets Once Again
Rasheedat Ajibade was the star once more as she scored a late equaliser against on Monday and helped Nigeria qualify for the quarterfinals of the U-20 Women’s World Cup currently holding in France.
The Falconets’ forward who had scored the team’s only goal in the competition when they defeated Haiti, was on the score sheet again against China in their last group game.
Nigeria needed a draw against China to qualify but they conceded a goal in the 41st minute, courtesy of Linyan Zhang.
The Chinese ladies were almost guaranteed a quarter-final place as a result of the lone goal, coupled with the fact that the Falconets were still trying to find their feet even in the second half.
It took all of 90 minutes for the Nigerian team, through captain Ajobade, to score what became the equaliser for the Falconets to go through.
Nigeria finished in second place in Group D with four points, same as China who are in third position, but with an inferior goal difference. Both teams were defeated by Germany, who also beat the whipping girls of the group, Hati
The Falconets will now face Spain, who topped the Group C, tomorrow at the State Guy Pirion, to fight for a Semi final place.
