‘Synergy, Key To Deliver Democracy Dividends’
Rivers state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike says synergy between the arms of government is key to delivering democracy dividends to the people.
Speaking at 2018 Assembly Commission Conference in Port Harcourt last Wednesday, the governor described the legislature as the watchdog of democracy.
He said, “ we are in synergy and working towards improving the lives of the people.”
Wike averred that since the legislature play key role in governance, there is need to strengthen its independence and workings to effectively achieve this aim.
As part of efforts to make the system more effective, he assured that his administration will strengthen the capacity of the Assembly Commission to ensure the legislature deliver on its mandate.
He expressed happiness over the good attendance recorded at the conference, saying it underscores the importance of the event to staff and capacity development.
Also speaking, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Yakubu Dogara, represented by deputy House Whip, Pally Eriase, expressed optimism that the conference would aid bureaucratic workings of the legislature
He advocated for a different civil service procedure for the legislature to remove bottlenecks in lawmaking.
On his part, Chairman, National Assembly Commission, Dr. Adamu Mohammadu Fika said the conference will effectively enhance service delivery and effectiveness in the legislature.
Fika noted that effective synergy was crucial in developing standards that will ensure efficiency in legislative workings.
Member, House Committee on Public Service, Hon. Randolph Brown who represented the chairman of the committee said the conference will help inject reforms to move the legislature forward.
He pledged the committee’s support to the conference and commended Chief Wike for hosting the conference last held in 2010.
