LG Polls: Wike Disqualifies Chairmanship Aspirants In DELGA
In keeping with his promise to tame election violence and encourage the conduct of credible, free and fair polls at all levels in the state, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has announced the disqualification by the party of all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship aspirants in Degema Local Government Area.
The disqualification of all the Degema PDP chairmanship aspirants was premised on their alleged involvement in violence during the councillorship primaries in the LGA.
A statement by the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, quoted the governor as saying that the disqualification would serve as a deterrent to other politicians who may want to be involved in election violence in the future.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has approved the appointment of Chibuike Godson Ogbunehu, Chimeka Nmerukini and Alfred Bamson as special assistants to the governor.
A statement by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, explained that their appointments were with immediate effect.
It directed the three appointees to report for a meeting with the governor for briefing, yesterday, in Government House, Port Harcourt.
However, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has stated that he will propose an amendment to the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency, if the police go ahead to reject the recruitment of certain operatives of the agency on the basis of petitions by opposition elements in the state.
The governor said that the amendment would only be proposed when the police take a partisan position in their consideration of the vetting of recruited operatives of the agency.
