In keeping with his promise to tame election violence and encourage the conduct of credible, free and fair polls at all levels in the state, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has announced the disqualification by the party of all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship aspirants in Degema Local Government Area.
The disqualification of all the Degema PDP chairmanship aspirants was premised on their alleged involvement in violence during the councillorship primaries in the LGA.
A statement by the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, quoted the governor as saying that the disqualification would serve as a deterrent to other politicians who may want to be involved in election violence in the future.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has approved the appointment of Chibuike Godson Ogbunehu, Chimeka Nmerukini and Alfred Bamson as special assistants to the governor.
