‘Lack Of Structures, Cause Of Nigeria’s Economic Recession’
A clergyman Rivers State state and minister in charge of the Assembles of God Church, Nvigwe in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Pastor Goddy Stewart, has said that lack of economic structures is the major reason behind the recession being experienced in Nigeria.
Pastor Stewart, who stated this recently in Port Harcourt, while interacting with The Tide on the state of the economy stressed that the nation would keep crawling, if urgent steps are not taken to introduce comprehensive economic agenda to inculcate business in the minds of the electorate at the grassroots level.
He maintained that, “the fact that government cannot pay salaries is as a result of the poor economy, which he said cannot be blamed on individuals”, noting that if the economy is not built from the base, the problem would continue to persist.
The man of God used the opportunity to enjoin political leaders across the six geo-political zones to go back to the drawing board and redesign the ailing economy, saying, “Nigerians must tell themselves the truth. If you have to tackle poverty you must start from the root because people at the top are not poor. If this is not done and if care is not taken, Nigeria will keep on crawling sequel to the economic situation. This is not a political matter rather universal,” he said.
The clergyman, however, stressed the need for the nation to introduce micro-credit finance, to assist in the development of the vulnerable in Nigeria, pointing out that it is the surest way for global poverty reduction.
