PH Environmental Summit Holds, ’Morrow
A two-day Port Harcourt Environmental Summit organised by the Rivers State House of Assembly in collaboration with the State Ministry of Environment begins tomorrow.
The summit which has as its theme: “Our Environment, Our Heritage: Environmental Sustainability in Rivers State, a Right for All” will hold at the auditorium of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
According to Programme Manager/Secretary, Steering Committee of the Port Harcourt Environmental Summit, Dr. Anthony Egobueze, the event is aimed at reviewing the environmental issues in the state with a view to presenting a bill to the House for possible enactment into a law.
Dr. Egobueze said the summit would bring together top government functionaries, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, top industry personnel environmentalists and key business leaders from Nigeria and the international community.
“It would also afford participants the opportunity to network and invest in environment-friendly industries and other sectors of the state”, he said.
It would be recalled that the Chairman, Rivers State House Committee on Environment, Hon. Christian Ahiakwo had in a radio programme in Port Harcourt said the summit would provide opportunity for lawmakers to holistically addresse all facets of the state environment through legislations.
Hon. Ahiakwo also said that attitude of the people towards the environment would also be addressed.
