Association Wants More Squash Courts
The Professional Squash Players Association (PSPAN) has appealed to the government to provide squash courts at the grassroots that would enable budding talents to sharpen their skills.
The President of PSPAN, Seun Peters, who made the appeal in an interview with Tidesports source yesterday in Lagos, added that such a step would likely popularise the sport.
“You cannot play squash these days unless you have a squash court in your school.
“Lagos State has more than enough facilities but they are zoned to a particular area.
“In places like Ikorodu, Alimosho and Iyana Ipaja you can hardly find squash courts.
“But from Ikeja down to Lekki and Ajah axis there are lots of squash court,’’ he said.
He added that the only way squash could grow was for the authorities to ensure an even spread of facilities in the state.
On the fitness level of squash players, he told NAN that the association would organise a seminar to educate its members on health matters.
“The seminar will cover issues like sports injury and how to prevent injury, what to do before you go to the court.
“Most players don’t actually warm up, they just go and play after which they come out.
“They will not warm down, we are used to that and those things matter a lot.
